Eerily similar to Sale, Gio Gonzalez has suffered this season from a career-low in strikeouts per nine (6.81) while enjoying a career-low walks per nine (2.43).

Aside from his poor outing against the Cubs in his last start when he gave up five runs (I mean, seriously, who doesn’t have a poor outing versus the Cubs nowadays?), Gonzalez has allowed one earned run or fewer in four of his other five starts.

He’s shown upside in the strikeout department despite his season average, striking out eight batters on two separate occasions. Tonight’s matchup will give him an opportunity to accumulate a similar total, as the Marlins have the fourth-worst strikeout rate versus left-handed pitching at 24.6 percent.

With the Marlins walking just 7.6 percent of the time versus southpaws, Gonzalez should be able to keep his pitch count low and go deep into this game.

As a -165 favorite, Gonzalez has the highest win probability of any pitcher on the board, giving him an excellent chance to earn the 12-point win bonus on FanDuel.
