Why He Will Go Overlooked:

Among top-end options, both Edwin Encarnacion and David Ortiz are playing in games with higher implied team totals and will likely be more popular than Paul Goldschmidt. The red-hot Kendrys Morales is still severely underpriced and is in another good matchup tonight against R.A. Dickey, so he will likely be the most popular first base option.

Why You Should Use Him:

Goldschmidt is enjoying yet another great season, but it has gone somewhat overlooked with huge contributions from some other top-end first basemen. He's hit the ball especially well recently, with an extra base hit in four of his past five starts.

He'll look to build on his already impressive numbers against the not-so-impressive left-hander Christian Friedrich. Friedrich has a 4.96 SIERA this season and is the owner of a career 4.26 mark. In his career, his xFIP has jumped an entire point from 3.55 against lefties to 4.60 against right-handed batters.

Goldscmidt, a righty, has destroyed left-handed pitching in his career and should continue to do so with a weak lefty on the mound tonight. The Diamondbacks are projected for roughly five runs against Friedrich. Goldschmidt should be a big part of reaching that total, and he is an excellent play in any format tonight.
