5 Under-the-Radar Daily Fantasy Baseball Plays for 7/8/16
Chris Sale, SP, Chicago White Sox
FanDuel Price: $11,000
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Price-wise, Chris Sale is sandwiched in between Jose Fernandez and Stephen Strasburg, both of whom have higher strikeout potential. If choosing between the three most obvious elite pitching options, Sale will likely end up being the third-most popular.
Why You Should Use Him:
Sale is thought to lack upside after an ultra-efficient start to the season in which his strikeout numbers were down. Over his last five starts, however, he's been striking batters out at a much higher clip. His strikeout rate is up to 28.4 percent during that span and his swinging strike rate is 14.1 percent. Those would both rank fifth among qualified starting pitchers on the season.
Sale's opponent tonight, the Braves, rank 29th in wOBA and have a strikeout rate of 21 percent against lefties. They also have the second-lowest walk rate against lefties. They are projected for just 2.7 runs against Sale, which is the second-lowest total on the day.
Run support shouldn't be an issue for Sale in this one, either, as the White Sox are projected for the fourth-highest team total against Matt Wisler. As a result, Vegas sees Sale as the pitcher most likely to secure a win tonight.
Sale might not carry quite as much as upside as Fernandez or Strasburg, but with the way he has pitched recently, the gap isn't quite as large as you might imagine. He's a viable play in all formats tonight.
