3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 9/23/19
While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your shortlist of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.
Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.
Adam Wainwright, P, St. Louis Cardinals
FanDuel Price: $9,200
Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals are coming off a four game sweep of the Chicago Cubs which essentially locked them into first place of the NL Central. The Cardinals will now travel west to play the Arizona Diamondbacks. Although Arizona has been average offensively, Wainwright is an avoid due to his lack of upside. The D-backs strike out at a 21.4 percent rate which is the seventh lowest mark in the majors. On the same note, Wainwright only strikes out 20.7% of batters faced. On a short slate, it makes sense to chase a higher upside play like Caleb Smith ($7,700).
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 3B, Toronto Blue Jays
FanDuel Price: $3,200
Despite having only five games on tonight's slate, there are plenty of high-quality options at 3B. While Vladimir Guerrero Jr. does not find himself in a bad spot, the alternatives at the position are worth the extra salary. Vladito has had an unspectacular rookie year, raking up .7 WAR through 119 games with only 12 home runs. Despite all of the minor league hype, he clearly still needs to fine-tune his skills before being considered one of the game's elite. With Anthony Rendon ($4,200) and Eduardo Escobar ($3,600) available, Guerrero Jr. is best left untouched.
Marcell Ozuna, OF, St. Louis Cardinals
Fanduel Price: $3,300
Marcell Ozuna has featured reverse splits all season, hitting a mere .187 against lefties and striking out nearly 9 percent more often than against righties. Tonight, he will be taking on Alex Young, a rookie southpaw who has a mediocre 4.48 FIP. In addition to the poor splits, Ozuna will also be hitting the ball into the second-best defense according to Defensive Runs Saved as Arizona trails only the Los Angeles Dodgers with 113 runs saved. With plenty more viable OF options, consider Adam Eaton ($3,200) in place of Ozuna.
