Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds: Week 4
Welcome to baseball season, everyone! Fantasy baseball is back, and despite some hiccups along the way, we are finally here.
Each week, we will take a look at players who are rostered in less than 50% of Yahoo leagues and could help out your squads. Remember, if you aren’t scouring the waiver wire, you are falling behind your league-mates.
Rafael Montero - Texas Rangers (RP)
Roster percentage: 29%
The closer carousel continues to spin, and this week, we find a new arm in the Texas Rangers bullpen that's front center. That's righty Rafael Montero, who has taken over the reigns of the bullpen thanks to an unfortunate major teres injury to Jose Leclerc.
This has resulted in back-to-back saves for Montero as he slammed the door on the Los Angeles Angels. While some surmised Jonathan Hernandez may inherit the role, Montero stepped right in to put fires out in those contests.
Montero has been shuffled across many levels of professional baseball, but one thing is for certain -- he possesses elite whiff capacity. For his career, he owns a 22.5% strikeout rate, but he posted an excellent 30.1% mark in 29 innings last year.
If you need to shore up your pen, look at Montero.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa - Texas Rangers (C/3B)
Roster percentage: 32%
Sometimes we get very lucky in fantasy baseball and a player starting at another position is eligible at catcher, a notably difficult one to roster, especially in two-catcher formats. That guy in 2020 is Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and the best part is that he is a plus hitter at multiple positions.
While you may only need to roster IKF at catcher, you won't be disappointed. In batting average leagues, he's been more than adept with a .342 mark and sparkling .837 OPS with four steals to his name. How many catchers can nab you that kind of speed?
Need more juice? He's playing in the friendly confines of Coors Field this weekend, which could set you up for some massive counting categories. If he's available on your waiver wire, go add him.
Pablo Lopez - Miami Marlins (SP)
Roster percentage: 23%
Quick -- your leader in the NL East is...the Miami Marlins?
Believe it or not, that's not a joke but a correct answer. Even after dropping the finale of a three game series to Jacob deGrom and the New York Mets today, the Fish are still -- despite their illness-ravaged roster -- leading the division.
How in the hell are they doing this? With a lot of different moving parts, but a big reason is Pablo Lopez. He's only made two starts this season, pitching five innings in each turn, but he has performed more than admirably, allowing only a combined two earned runs while striking out 11 batters.
He will have his hands full in his next turn with the Atlanta Braves, who seem to be surging right now, but Lopez looks legit.
Dylan Moore - Seattle Mariners (2B/SS/3B/OF)
Roster percentage: 29%
Unlike popular opinion, this isn't simply going to be a Seattle Mariners fan account. But, there are some quality fantasy assets coming out of the Pacific Northwest, and Dylan Moore is the next multi-positional asset that you should think about.
So who is Moore? A seventh-round pick in the 2015 amateur draft, Moore has been a double-digit threat in both home runs and steals across the minors, including a 14-homer, 42-steal season in 2016 and a 14-homer, 23-steal season in 2018.
Moore has been part of a surprising Mariners offense, and he owns three homers and steals each to his name already. Batting at the top of the lineup (often out of the second spot), Moore can provide a lot of value to fantasy teams.
