Texas Rangers vs Seattle Mariners
Texas Rangers +1.5 (-118): 2 Stars out of 5
This starting pitching matchup features a pair of trade decline acquisitions as Spencer Howard of the Texas Rangers faces off against Tyler Anderson of the Seattle Mariners.
Both pitchers have identical xERAs of 4.28, although Anderson has thrown 113.2 innings, compared to only 30.2 for Howard, so his numbers are backed by much more substance.
Still, the pitching matchup should be close to even and neither team has had much success offensively, with the Rangers averaging 3.76 runs per game and the Mariners averaging only 4.19 runs per game.
Our model likes Seattle to win outright but projects the Rangers to cover, giving them a 63.18% chance to do so.
Cincinnati Reds vs Atlanta Braves
Cincinnati Reds +1.5 (-178): 1 Star out of 5
Wade Miley takes the hill for the Cincinnati Reds and he boasts a 2.75 ERA this season, although his xERA is over a run higher at 3.91. However, even using xERA Miley matches up well with Atlanta Braves' starter Touki Toussaint who has an xERA of 4.40 this season in four starts and has a career ERA of 5.68.
The Reds have the advantage from a pitching perspective and they have been more productive than the Braves offensively this year too, producing 4.98 runs per game compared to 4.79 for Atlanta.
Our model likes the Reds to cover, giving them a 66.15% chance to do so.
St. Louis Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Pirates
Under 9.0 Runs (-108): 1 Star out of 5
This game features two of the weakest offensive teams in baseball, with the Pittsburgh Pirates averaging a league-worst, 3.59 runs per game. While the St. Louis Cardinals are averaging only 4.38 runs per game (26th in MLB). The Cardinals are also 23rd in MLB in OPS and the Pirates are 29th in OPS, so neither team has been good offensively across the board this season.
Wil Crowe gets the start for Pittsburgh and although he has an xERA of 5.46, he has allowed only two runs or less in four out of his last six starts. Crowe opposes Adam Wainwright, who has an xERA of 3.96. Wainwright has been on a hot streak himself, giving up two runs or less in eight out of his last 11 starts.
Our model likes this bet, giving a push a 10.95% chance and giving the under a 47.09% chance, making this a 1-star betting opportunity.
