3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Monday 5/16/22

Stacks are an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. They can push a team to the top of a GPP by driving upside. However, they're also viable in cash games, namely smaller (two-person or three-person) stacks that mitigate the volatility of a full four-person stack.

This article is your home throughout the 2022 Major League Baseball season for the day's top stacks. The primary goal is to identify the highest-scoring upside stack. Still, game theory will play a role in contrarian stacks making the cut as GPP options. Nevertheless, chalky stacks will make appearances in this space, too.

Now, let's look at the top stacks on today's main slate.

San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants are the lucky offense playing at Coors Field tonight. Colorado remains the undisputed best venue for hitting. But, of course, facing Antonio Senzatela doesn't hurt, either.

According to FanGraphs, Senzatela has had a 4.88 ERA and 7.03 Expected ERA (xERA) in six starts in 2022. The righty also has had a tiny strikeout rate (6.2 percent) that's desirable to stack against. In addition, Senzatela has been bad against lefties and righties. Since last year, the right-handed hurler has allowed a .330 Weighted On-Base Average (wOBA) to righties and a .348 wOBA to lefties.

So, the Giants are stackable throughout their entire lineup tonight. However, my two favorite options are the first two to take hacks against Senzatela, leadoff hitter LaMonte Wade Jr ($2,900), and number-two hitter Brandon Belt ($3,800). Both hitters have been crushing righties since last year. In 360 plate appearances, Wade has had a .248 Isolated Power (ISO) and 135 Weighted Runs Created Plus (wRC+). Meanwhile, Belt has been better with a .377 OBP, .318 ISO, and 161 wRC+.

Boston Red Sox

Coors Field isn't the only hitter-friendly venue with a game tonight. Instead, Fenway Park is also a dreamy spot for hitters to take hacks. Moreover, it's a treacherous park for pitch-to-contact hurlers like Jake Odorizzi. The 32-year-old righty has had a 15.6 percent strikeout rate in 2022.

Odorizzi has also had below-average control, walking 10.1 percent of the batters. Nevertheless, the veteran has miraculously worked around his low strikeout and high walk rate for a 3.38 ERA. Still, his 5.05 Skill Interactive ERA (SIERA) has better represented his actual skills. Thus, he's a significant regression candidate, and the Boston Red Sox can start the regression process.

Boston, like San Francisco, is stackable from top to bottom. However, Rafael Devers ($3,900) and Xander Bogaerts ($3,500) are the top options. They've ripped righties at home. Since 2019, Devers has had a .360 OBP, .277 ISO, and 139 wRC+ in 556 plate appearances against righties at Fenway Park. Under the same conditions, in 570 plate appearances, Bogaerts has had a .393 OBP, .238 ISO, and 147 wRC+.

Houston Astros

The Houston Astros don't have as cushy of a matchup at Fenway Park as the host. However, if they can get the best of Garrett Whitlock and chase him early or do some damage before getting to the bullpen, they can pile up points in bunches against Boston's dreadful relievers. The Red Sox have had the seventh-highest bullpen ERA (4.27) and sixth-highest Expected Fielding Independent Pitching (4.04 xFIP).

Houston makes it a clean sweep for deep lineups that can be stacked throughout. But, again, there are top options. Yordan Alvarez ($4,200) is an elite option. Yet, gamers shouldn't sleep on Jose Altuve ($3,500) or Kyle Tucker ($3,700).

Altuve has been great this year. He has had a .348 OBP, .272 ISO, 164 wRC+, seven homers, and two stolen bases in 92 plate appearances. Unfortunately, Tucker got off to a slow start. Thankfully, he's turned this around. In his last 74 plate appearances, he's had a .459 OBP, .271 ISO, 217 wRC+, three homers, and six stolen bases.
