Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds: Week 17

Brady Singer has been absolutely brilliant lately, and he has some delightful matchups upcoming. Who else should we think about?

Nailing the waiver wire and the players available are critical to beating out your league-mates in season-long formats.

Each week we will take a look at players who are rostered in fewer than 50% of Yahoo leagues and can help out your season-long squads. Remember, if you aren’t scouring the waiver wire, you are falling behind.

Reid Detmers, SP, Los Angeles Angels

Roster Percentage: 31%

Yes, I am telling you to add a guy that just notched his first win since May 10th.

While many may remember Reid Detmers for his no-hitter that surprised the baseball world, he has allowed only four total runs (three earned) in 24 innings since returning from a brief minor league stint. That's good for a 2.78 xFIP.

In his last outing, he went five scoreless innings over a very strong Atlanta Braves lineup. On the season, in 82 innings pitched, Detmers struck out 75 batters and owns a 1.05 WHIP.

If you need some rotational help, he's a guy I would look to add.

Brady Singer, SP, Kansas City Royals

Roster Percentage: 40%

Raise your hand if, like me, you've rostered Brady Singer of the Kansas City Royals in nearly every fantasy season.

Singer, though, may finally be turning a corner. He struck out 10 New York Yankees in his last start, and unfortunately, he didn't get a win despite those efforts. Now in his last two starts, he's struck out 22 batters after striking out 12 Tampa Bay Rays in his prior outing.

Singer has racked up 91 batters in 84 2/3 innings pitched and has a respectable 1.13 WHIP this season. That's supported by a 3.22 xFIP. Add him immediately.

Aledmys Diaz, 1B/2B/3B/OF, Houston Astros

Roster Percentage: 11%

Super utility man Aledmys Diaz has been absolutely white hot at the plate, and he could be in line for a massive fantasy finish.

Diaz has smacked nine home runs on the season in only 212 at-bats after going deep three times in his past two starts. He's already surpassed last season's total for home runs with two months to go and is experiencing a three-year high in expected slugging percentage.

Diaz is a valuable commodity with his multi-positional eligibility. He doesn't provide much in the way of speed, but with his pop and consistent playing time, he could be a monster.

Seth Brown, 1B/OF, Oakland Athletics

Roster Percentage: 11%

Members of the Oakland Athletics are not often sought after for fantasy purposes, but Seth Brown is a huge bat we need to think about.

After homering in Saturday night's contest -- a 110.8 MPH exit velocity -- Brown is now up to 15 homers and 7 steals this season in 308 at-bats.

Now, Brown won't offer much in the way of average -- he's only hitting .234 on the season -- and he hit .214 a year ago. But, if you need a sneaky power/speed combo, peep Brown.
