3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Thursday 8/11/22

Coors Field looks to be a plum spot to attack for stacks again on Thursday. Which other stacks should you target?

Stacks are an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. They can push a team to the top of a GPP by driving upside. However, they're also viable in cash games, namely smaller (two-person or three-person) stacks that mitigate the volatility of a full four-person stack.

This article is your home throughout the 2022 Major League Baseball season for the day's top stacks. The primary goal is to identify the highest-scoring upside stack. Still, game theory will play a role in contrarian stacks making the cut as GPP options. Nevertheless, chalky stacks will make appearances in this space, too.

Now, let's look at the top stacks on today's main slate that starts on FanDuel at 1:05 pm ET.

Colorado Rockies

Gamers who use one of the aces getting the ball today and want to stack the top-shelf options from a team at Coors Field will have to plant a flag on the Colorado Rockies or St. Louis Cardinals. I'm leaning in the Rockies' direction.

The lucky Dakota Hudson has regressed hard lately. According to FanGraphs, in his previous 11 starts, he's had a 4.92 ERA that aligns with his 4.96 xFIP. While falling back to Earth, he's had a paltry 12.3 percent strikeout rate. Hudson's reliance on batted balls finding gloves in the field is a recipe for disaster at Coors Field.

As a result, the Rockies should continue their offensive assault in home games. The Rockies are atop the heap for wOBA (.353) at home this season. Frankly, they can be stacked throughout their entire lineup. However, C.J. Cron ($4,300) is my favorite selection. The slugger has hammered righties at Coors Field since signing with the Rockies last year. In 354 plate appearances, he's mashed 23 taters with a .394 OBP and .298 ISO.

Brendan Rodgers ($3,500) and Ryan McMahon ($3,400) are also excellent options. As a bonus, Cron should be sandwiched between them, increasing the ceiling for all three through lineup correlation.

St. Louis Cardinals

I carefully chose my words above because it is possible to stack the Rockies and Cardinals with an ace today. However, gamers will have to invest in more cap-friendly options from one of the clubs. Since I'm locking in the top-shelf Rockies, that means turning to the lower-salaried options on the Red Birds.

Facing German Marquez will award hitters throughout St. Louis's lineup the chance to pile up FanDuel points. The 27-year-old righty has a 5.18 ERA this year, his highest mark since debuting in 2016. Further, he's been dreadful at home, owning a 6.11 ERA at Coors Field. Hitters are predictably teeing off on Marquez at home. Specifically, he's allowed a jaw-dropping .540 slugging and .376 wOBA at home in 2022.

My two favorite options to stack from the Cardinals are Paul DeJong ($3,100) and Lars Nootbaar ($2,700) when considering my infatuation with the Rockies. DeJong has rewarded the Cardinals for recalling him from Triple-A at the end of July. DeJong has reached base in 8 of 10 games since returning to The Show, doing so multiple times in four games. Moreover, he's hit four dongs.

Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are a cap-friendly stack with a mouthwatering matchup. In 18 starts totaling 92 and 1/3 innings, Zack Greinke has had a 4.58 ERA. However, Greinke's 5.45 Expected ERA (xERA) is fifth-highest among pitchers with at least 90 innings pitched.

Greinke also hasn't been good against either handedness of hitter. He's ceded a .329 wOBA to lefties and a .325 wOBA to right-handed batters. Moreover, Chicago's upside is bolstered by the relievers on the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City's bullpen has the third-highest ERA (4.56).

The apple of my eye from the Pale Hose is Eloy Jimenez ($2,900). Since last year, the slugging outfielder has had a 125 wRC+ against righties. Josh Harrison ($2,100) is another option. The veteran utility man has a 103 wRC+ against righties this season.
