3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Wednesday 9/21/22

The Dodgers could produce a laugher against the scuffling Madison Bumgarner. Which other offenses can we stack?

Stacks are an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. They can push a team to the top of a GPP by driving upside. However, they're also viable in cash games, namely smaller (two-person or three-person) stacks that mitigate the volatility of a full four-person stack.

This article is your home throughout the 2022 Major League Baseball season for the day's top stacks. The primary goal is to identify the highest-scoring upside stack. Still, game theory will play a role in contrarian stacks making the cut as GPP options. Nevertheless, chalky stacks will make appearances in this space, too.

Beyond my analysis in this space, I strongly suggest numberFire premium members using our DFS Sharpstack tool and hitting heat map tool. The DFS Sharpstack helps plug stacks into optimized lineups, allowing you to change parameters and lock or exclude players and teams. Meanwhile, the heat map offers a one-stop-shop for the opposing starting pitcher, implied total, park factor, and other notable goodies.

Now, let's look at the top stacks on today's main slate.

Los Angeles Dodgers

It's been years since Madison Bumgarner was an imposing matchup. Now, he's a dreamy matchup.

According to FanGraphs, Mad Bum has had a 5.01 ERA, 5.69 Expected ERA (xERA), and allowed 1.41 homers per nine innings in 29 starts this year. Additionally, he's had a putrid 7.03 ERA in the second half.

Bumgarner also hasn't had answers for any hitters. Lefties have had a .330 wOBA against him this year. However, righties have destroyed him, amassing a .522 slugging and .373 wOBA. As a result, the high-octane Los Angeles Dodgers are stackable from top to bottom, regardless of the hitter's handedness.

Still, a few of my favorite choices are Mookie Betts ($3,500), Will Smith ($3,100), and Justin Turner ($3,400). Betts has had a vintage year at the plate and crushes lefties. Since 2019, Betts has had a .375 OBP, .213 ISO, and 132 wRC+ versus southpaws. Turner is also a lefty-killer. Since 2019, he's had a .348 OBP, .218 ISO, and 125 wRC+ against lefties.

Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins aren't a deep lineup in their present state. Nonetheless, they have some intriguing stacking options in a plus matchup. Lety Daniel Lynch has had a 5.15 ERA, 5.02 xERA, and allowed 1.46 homers per nine innings in 24 starts this year.

The young southpaw has also been ripped by all hitters. Lefties have teed off for a .378 wOBA. Meanwhile, righties have had a .349 wOBA. Thankfully, Minnesota's offensive fun shouldn't end with the Kansas City Royals removing Lynch. Kansas City's bullpen has the highest ERA this season.

Again, Minnesota's lineup isn't a stackable group from top to bottom. Still, I love Jose Miranda ($2,600) and Carlos Correa ($3,500) tonight. Miranda has had a .265 ISO and 132 wRC+ in his rookie campaign. And, since 2019, Correa has had a.396 OBP, .188 ISO, and 144 wRC+ against southpaws.

San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants have had a productive road trip at the dish in Colorado. Coors Field has done wonders for San Francisco's offensive output. Tonight, they'll attempt to stay hot against German Marquez.

The veteran righty has had a 5.14 ERA and 4.64 xERA in 28 starts in 2022. Predictably, he's been destroyed at Coors Field. Marquez has had a 6.78 ERA in 82 and 1/3 innings at home. He's also served up a .383 wOBA to righties in Colorado and a .397 wOBA to lefties at Coors Field. As a result, San Francisco's scoring ceiling is through the roof tonight.

They're stackable from top to bottom. Yet, I'm most excited about Joc Pederson ($2,700). In 339 plate appearances against righties this year, Pederson has crushed 20 homers with a .254 ISO and 141 wRC+.
