Passan: Cardinals trade Jordan Montgomery to Rangers
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery has been traded to the Texas Rangers, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Montgomery is on the move for the second deadline in a row. The Cardinals are in the midst of a fire sale - having just sent reliever Jordan Hicks to the Blue Jays less than an hour ago - and now part with their most-prized asset. The former Yankees southpaw is a free agent at the end of the season, and Texas is making sure they have ample starting pitching for a potential World Series run. No word yet on the package heading back to St. Louis.
In 121 innings pitched this season, Montgomery has a 6-9 record with a 3.42 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 108 strikeouts and 35 walks.
