Rangers hoping for June return for Max Scherzer (back)
The Texas Rangers are reportedly hoping to have ace pitcher Max Scherzer (herniated disk) back on the mound at some point in June this season.
Scherzer underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back in December of 2023 and is still working his way back up to full health. The team reportedly has little concern for his arm, but will take it slow with the 39-year-old three-time Cy Young award winner.
Scherzer pitched to a 3.20 ERA with a 0.956 WHIP and 10.6 K/9 after joining the Rangers at the trade deadline, helping the team to win its first ever World Series. With both Scherzer and Jacob deGrom (elbow) sidelined, Nathan Eovaldi should open the season as Texas' top pitcher.
