Brow Blocking Blazers

There was quite a bit of excitement surrounding Anthony Davis' first playoff appearance since his age-21 season -- one in which he averaged a ridiculous 31.5 points, 11.0 boards, and 3.0 blocks. And the Brow did not disappoint, finishing with 35 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 blocks in a road victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. His usage rate was through the roof at 36.6%, which (as he did all season) should sustain his value as a volume scorer, even in a matchup against the league's premier rim-protecting team.

What is most notable about how Davis fits this matchup is his ability to pile up blocks. Davis averaged four blocks in two healthy games against Portland during the regular season, and he averaged four blocks in three games against them last season. Is that just a product of variance, or is this a matchup that we can actually expect multiple blocks from Davis on a regular basis?

The numbers would suggest the latter. Both C.J. McCollum and Lillard rank in the top 10 in blocks against, while Portland's opponents averaged the sixth-most (5.2) blocks per game against them this season.

This is especially noteworthy on FanDuel, where Davis racks up three points for every block. Given that, he put up 68.3 FanDuel points in Game 1, bringing his season average to 51.8 in four games. Expect more of the same as the Pelicans look to pull the first-round upset.
