Dieng was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies last Friday. "I am defensive-minded and I can shoot threes. I feel good," Dieng said on why he is a good fit with the Spurs. "I don’t have an issue. I am a role player and, in fact, I would say I am here to serve the team. Whatever way the coach wants to use me to help the team, I am willing to do it." Dieng's first chance to play with the Spurs will be on Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings. He has a chance at a larger role in San Antonio after only averaging 16.9 minutes with the Grizzlies.

Dieng posted per-36 numbers with Memphis of 16.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.4 blocks, and 2.2 triples.
