Damien Harris taking RB2 reps at Bills practice
Buffalo Bills running back Damien Harris is taking reps behind James Cook and ahead of Latavius Murray to begin training camp.
Cook is clearly first on the Bills' running back depth chart, but Harris is currently ahead of Murray in the competition to be the second option. Harris (26) is seven years younger than Murray (33) and he received more guaranteed money in free agency this offseason, so the job appears to be his to lose. Harris and Murray are both limited as pass-catchers, so it remains to be seen who will replace Nyheim Hines as the Bills' primary receiving back. Josh Allen indicated that wide receiver Deonte Harty could potentially help fill that role. The Bills also added Darrynton Evans to their backfield on Tuesday.
numberFire's models project Cook for 152.0 carries and 701.6 rushing yards in 2023, plus 34.5 receptions (48.8 targets) and 252.3 receiving yards, with 6.06 total touchdowns. Harris is projected for 131.9 carries for 601.1 yards and 4.49 touchdowns, with just 10.9 catches on 15.3 targets. Murray is forecasted for only 20.1 rush attempts and 6.8 receptions.
