Former Jets, Titans receiver Corey Davis officially retires
Former New York Jets and Tennessee Titans wideout Corey Davis announced Wednesday that he has decided to retire from the NFL.
Davis, the fifth-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, is throwing in the towel at 28 years of age. While we never saw him fully replicate his electric collegiate production at the NFL level, he was still a productive player whenever given the chance and kept a starting role throughout each of his 6 years in the league. He was most recently competing for a starting job with the Jets alongside their recent Aaron Rodgers-influenced free agent signings, but will now enjoy the NFL season from home.
Davis' raw numbers in Tennessee were limited by that team's heavy commitment to Derrick Henry and the running game, but he still handled both WR1 and WR2 duties for the team at various points in his career. He looked like a budding stud in his second NFL season, catching 65 passes for 891 yards and 4 touchdowns, before ceding the WR1 spot to superstar A.J. Brown the following year. He served as the Jets' top wideout for multiple seasons after that, but poor quarterback play in his tenure there kept him off the table for most fantasy leagues.
