Commanders' Chris Rodriguez dealing with ankle injury
Washington Commanders running back Chris Rodriguez suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's loss to the New York Jets.
Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said Rodriguez is undergoing an MRI on Tuesday. He was reportedly seen with his right foot in a boot after the loss to the Jets. The Commanders called up Jaret Patterson to help out at practice while Rodriguez and Brian Robinson (hamstring) are unavailable. Antonio Gibson and Derrick Gore will likely handle most of the running back reps in Week 17 versus the San Francisco 49ers if Rodriguez and Robinson are out.
Rodriguez played 38 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 16 and rushed 10 times for 58 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had a seven-yard catch on his only target. The 49ers have the No. 18 run defense in numberFire's opponent-adjusted efficiency rankings, so the Commanders' backfield has a decent matchup if the team can maintain a neutral game script.
