Packers release veteran rusher Aaron Jones, per Adam Schefter
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Green Bay Packers are releasing veteran running back Aaron Jones.
Jones entered the league as a fifth round pick in 2017, but quickly established himself as the Packers' lead back from the 2018 season onward. He led the league in touchdowns in 2019 (16) and never dipped below 4.6 yards per carry in any of his seasons as the starter. However, the veteran did struggle with injuries, and will now become a free agent after the Packers signed free agent rusher Josh Jacobs to a new contract for the 2024 season.
Even while playing through injuries this past season, Jones still mustered a respectable 4.6 yards per carry for the Packers. He was electric in the team's playoff victory over the Dallas Cowboys, totaling 3 touchdowns and 118 yards on 21 carries. Hopefully the talented veteran lands with a team that can make full use of his playmaking talents.
