Shortstop: Jean Segura, Seattle Mariners

Current ADP:

Since 2000, there have only been five players to produce 200 hits, a .300 batting average, 20 home runs, 40 doubles, 30 stolen bases and 100 runs scored in a single season. Those players include Alfonso Soriano (2003), Hanley Ramirez (2007), Jacoby Ellsbury (2011), Jose Altuve (2016) and Jean Segura (2016).

The Seattle Mariners may have very well bought high on Segura by acquiring him from the Arizona Diamondbacks over the winter, but they're tempering their own expectations. Just listen to what general manager Jerry Dipoto said about what to expect from his new shortstop in 2017 (via The News Tribune):

"It’s impossible for a player to sustain what he did over and over. The year that he had is one of just five seasons in this century where a hitter was able to throw out 200 hits, a .300 batting average, 20 home runs, 40 doubles, 30 stolen bases and 100 runs scored. The fact that it’s only happened five times since the turn of the century probably suggests we shouldn’t press the pencil too hard that that’s going to occur again."

If the general manager is talking like that, then we should also have the same kind of expectations. Plus, Segura does have some things working against him.

Not only will he be playing in the American League for the first time ever, but he'll also be moving back from second base to shortstop. That is his normal position, but it's a more physically demanding spot on the diamond, which could potentially cut into his offensive production.

The other noteworthy change is the shift in ballparks. Safeco Field isn't necessarily the black hole it used to be for offense, but it's not as good as Chase Field -- Baseball Prospectus tabbed Arizona's ballpark as the 3rd-best for right-handed hitters last year, while Safeco check in at 15th for righties.

Our projections are tabbing Segura for a .281 average, 13 homers, 60 RBI's, 84 runs scored and 24 stolen bases this season.
