Nick Martinez, Texas Rangers

Nick Martinez has enrolled in the same school of unspectacular pitching as Aaron Harang, starting the season striking out 3.86 batters and walking 3.21 batters per nine innings pitched. His 0.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, .214 BABIP and 93.3 left on base percentage show how well his defense has been in the early going and how well he has been stranding runners no matter the situation. The only run scored against Martinez in his last outing against the Los Angeles Angels was unearned because of a throwing error by Adrian Beltre.

But, of course, those numbers also mean some regression could come as well.

How long can Martinez keep this pace? Who knows, but he has done all of this in ball parks with cavernous alleys that hitters tend to thrive. Martinez continues to neutralize those power alleys, but it will be interesting to see as the season goes on if some of those fly balls turn into line drives. His next two starts are in Arizona and L.A., where he can continue to get outs on fly balls where it takes more distance to cause more damage.
