Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Jace Peterson has been designated for assignment.
What It Means:
The Diamondbacks are callling up Pavin Smith from Triple-A Reno, and to make room on the active roster, Peterson was designated for assignment. He'll go on waivers, and if unclaimed, he'll have the choice of free agency or an outright assignment.
In 23 plate appearances this season, Peterson has a .053 batting average with a .227 OPS.
