4 Players to Stash in Fantasy Football From the AFC East

The Player

At 28 years old, Jordan Cameron is one of the oldest players we will profile. He is also a player who is appearing on this list after being a successful deep stash before his breakout 2013 season. Yet ever since that magical season (80 receptions for 917 yards and 7 touchdowns) he and Josh Gordon shared, it has been nothing but disappointment for the talented tight end. Still, his upside potential is immense if he can ever recapture the glory of his youth -- and by youth, I mean three years ago.

While his confidence may be shaken, the athleticism and receiving ability that made him a dominant weapon catching passes from the triumvirate of Jason Campbell, Brian Hoyer, and Brandon Weeden is still there. He was signed by Miami in 2015 yet totaled just 424 yards and 2 touchdowns in a disappointing season.

It was a tumultuous college career for Cameron, who originally played basketball before attempting to play wide receiver for Southern California. He caught only 16 passes in his college career after transitioning to tight end but tested as an elite athlete at the NFL combine (top three in every drill he performed other than the bench press, where he was fifth). His potential got him drafted in the fourth round, and by 2013, he seemed to be emerging as the next great tight end in the NFL.

But things went south in Cleveland and then south again after joining Miami. He took a pay cut with the Dolphins this past offseason after being convinced by Julius Thomas that new head coach Adam Gase would revitalize his career. So far during the offseason, that hasn't materialized.

The Opportunity

While Gase's offense certainly provides Cameron the opportunity to be a dominant player once again, all reports (as well as his preseason performance) would indicate that he is not taking advantage. He has struggled with drops in games and doesn't seem to have the confidence to make the contested catches he did in his 2013 season.

Still, you can see flashes of the athleticism and talent that Cameron possesses, and the team seems interested in making it work, continuing to provide him opportunities in the red zone and with the first team.

The Adam Gase offense has made a habit of turning unknown tight ends into fantasy commodities, elevating Julius Thomas' career with back-to-back 12 touchdown seasons in 2013 and 2014, and helping Zach Miller emerge from obscurity for the Bears last season after Martellus Bennett suffered an injury. While Ryan Tannehill's advanced metrics have placed him well below that of an average NFL passer, he has improved his yardage totals every year.

Should Cameron find his confidence in the same manner that Robin Williams rediscovered his happy thought in the classic movie Hook, he could return to form in 2016.
