2. Nickell-and-Diming the Jets

Win Probability Added: +23.71
NEP: +7.77

Immediately after the Bills’ downfield devastation of the Jets, the Jets had begun to engineer a response drive of their own. With a second-and-eight in their own territory, the Jets needed a chance to regain their momentum and pump the brakes on their opponents’ -- it wouldn’t come here.

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick stood in the shotgun. He took a short drop back while right wide receiver Jalin Marshall worked against Bills’ cornerback Ronald Darby on a five-yard dig route, cutting in sharply. Fitzpatrick rifled the ball in immediately after Marshall’s break, and he fought forward as Darby wrapped him up. Linebacker Preston Brown rocketed into the tackle to knock him down, and the ball came loose. Bills cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman then swept in, scooped the fumble up, and sent it right back to where it came from for a 14-point swing for Buffalo. This was by far the most exciting and high-scoring Thursday night game in a while, and plays like this made it an awesome experience.
