Week 8 NFL FanDuel Tournament Pivots
Running Back
Chalk:
The most obvious play of the daily fantasy football season is this week's Devontae Booker, as he'll see workhorse carries in a C.J. Anderson-less Denver backfield. Priced at just $5,600, he'll be a cash game staple.
There's also Spencer Ware, who'll face the fifth-worst rush defense (per NEP) in the league in Indianapolis. With Jamaal Charles limited in practice, Ware should continue to see a heavy workload.
And, lastly, Jacquizz Rodgers and his 56 carries over the last two games will more than likely see high ownership. That's especially true when you consider his opponent, the Oakland Raiders, rank dead last against the run according to our numbers.
Pivots:
Devonta Freeman, $6,900 (vs. Green Bay Packers): Let's be real for a second: pivoting at running back is a little tough because the position is a straight-up dumpster fire. But Freeman should be lower-owned than the aforementioned Ware, when you could strongly argue that his ceiling is just as high.
Tevin Coleman will be sidelined against the Packers this week with a hamstring injury, which means Freeman is about to see a big, big market share in the Falcons' backfield. On the season, Freeman's 57.38% market share for Atlanta -- he's seeing 57.38% of the team's rushes -- ranks 13th in the NFL. That's equated to 15 carries and 4 targets per game. He's still producing at a high level, regardless of a depleted share over last year, having scored double-digit FanDuel points in four of his last five games.
If you recall, without Tevin Coleman a year ago, Freeman went nuts, averaging over 22 carries per contest. That led to his famous five-game stretch where he scored 10 touchdowns.
The Packers appear to have a good rush defense, and our numbers don't think it's bad, even when you adjust for strength of opponent. But don't let the fantasy points against fool you: the only tough rushing attack they've faced was against Dallas, and Ezekiel Elliott ate them alive for 157 yards on the ground.
With the Falcons at home and as strong favorites, Freeman's a great play this week, even if he might be used more than you'd like as a traditional pivot.
Matt Asiata, $5,600 (at Chicago Bears): If you want a direct pivot off of Devontae Booker for the Sunday-Monday slate, take a look at Matt Asiata. Jerick McKinnon was spotted wearing a walking boot yesterday, so his status for Monday night's game is in doubt. Enter Asiata, who should see a positive game script against our 18th-ranked rush defense.
In the six games where Asiata has seen 15 or more carries over his career, he's scored a combined 8 touchdowns, all of them coming in three of those contests. In other words, he's scored touchdowns in bunches in the past, which is exactly what you want out of a tournament pivot.
