Plugging the Gaps: IDP Waiver Wire for Week 8

David Harris, Inside Linebacker

The New York Jets have gotten themselves into a bad place this season, with a trainwreck on offense and a passing defense that has been lackluster at its best. The one area they haven’t had to worry about under head coach Todd Bowles’ watch, however, is the front-seven. Veteran inside linebacker David Harris heads a group of versatile defenders who each bring something important to the table, and he himself is the big tackler of the group.

Harris has a 9 percent tackle rate this year, averaging nearly 54 snaps per game, and has had just two games with fewer than four total tackles this year. He’s clearly a volume-based play these days, but his Week 8 opponents -- the Cleveland Browns -- have run 167 rushing plays through Week 7, the 19th-most in the league. This is a pretty impressive feat to be anywhere near balanced (they rank 11th in pass-to-run play call ratio) considering that they’ve been blown out weekly. On top of that, they have the sixth-highest stuff rate allowed to opposing defenses. This shouldn’t be an explosive game for Harris, but he could be a solid starter off the waiver wire in Week 8.

Harris is available in 95.7% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 5.65 tackles, 0.05 sacks, 0.36 passes defended, and a total score of 6.56 fantasy points in Week 8.
