Nothing says a player’s days as the starter are numbered like a team trading up to draft a near-consensus first-round talent at the same position. That is the spot Minnesota Vikings running back Latavius Murray found himself when the Vikes (absent a first-round pick) moved up in the second to nab Florida State product Dalvin Cook.

Murray averaged 0.04 Rushing NEP per attempt in 2016, the 12th-most per-play value on the ground among backs with at least 100 carries. That, however, was behind the Oakland Raiders’ incredible offensive line, which hoisted its running backs to an above-average ranking in Rushing NEP per attempt. Thing is, Murray’s straight-line style won’t easily translate to the Vikings, who were dead-last in this metric.

He could quickly find himself losing touches to the shifty, make-something-out-of-nothing Cook.
