Jonnu Smith, TE, Tennessee Titans

If you don’t already have shares of rookie receiver Taywan Taylor, then what are you waiting for!? But for those looking to their dynasty waiver wires for a potential breakout, perhaps take a look at rookie tight end Jonnu Smith. The versatile athlete was drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft and immediately discussed as the heir apparent to the 33-year-old Delanie Walker, whose contract ends after the 2018 season.

Smith has quickly ascended the depth chart over the summer, with his ability in the open field and speed down the seem forcing the coaches to provide him more opportunities. A rare athlete at 6'3", 250 pounds, the former Florida International standout was clocked at 4.62 in the 40 while posting a 38-inch vertical jump. His athleticism, oddly enough, had scouts comparing him to now teammate Walker.

As the lead target for Marcus Mariota during the quarterback's first two seasons, Walker has exceeded 100 looks and been a focal point of the passing game. While the distribution of targets will ideally change following the additions of Corey Davis, Taylor and Eric Decker (who signed only a one-year deal), there is no doubt tight end is a nice fantasy spot in this offense.

It must be said that history tells us to expect rookie tight ends to develop slowly, but when it comes to dynasty rosters, watching an asset gain value while on your bench is just fine. Think about the path of Austin Hooper, who was essentially free last year after being drafted by the Falcons, and is now a trade asset and potential breakout candidate.

With young tight ends, patience is a virtue, and for a guy as talented as Smith, the reward could certainly be worth it.
