Mack Hollins, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have been attempting to reshape their wide receiver group since Chip Kelly decided to rid himself of Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson in order to draft Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor and Josh Huff. Needless to say, those moves have not panned out. Now under new leadership, the team jettisoned Matthews and Huff and signed Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith. In addition, they went out and drafted North Carolina wide receiver Mack Hollins.

Despite being just a fourth-round pick, Hollins is big (6'4", 221 pounds), fast enough (4.53 40), and a dynamic special teams player, which not only should aid him in his battle to earn a spot on the roster, but endears him to coaching staffs due to his versatility and willingness to work.

While he possesses impressive physical ability and some impressive college highlights, Hollins wasn't a highly regarded prospect coming out of North Carolina, in large part due to a collarbone injury that cut his senior season short. In addition, the former walk-on was never more than a role player behind the more highly regarded Bug Howard and Ryan Switzer, serving as a special teams captain and an effective deep threat.

The question for his NFL future will be whether or not he can become more. It's certainly a projection, given that nothing he demonstrated in college indicates he will transition into becoming a complete receiver at the next level. There are always be role players like Malcom Floyd, Rueben Randle or perhaps Donte Moncrief, who we project will eventually turn their considerable physical tools into sustained success, but that's simply not the development path all players take.

The Eagles have an open opportunity for a lead receiver to develop alongside presumed franchise quarterback Carson Wentz. Jeffrey is clearly the leader in the clubhouse to earn that spot, but he's on a one-year "prove it" deal due to the nagging injuries that have plagued him in recent years. Behind Jeffrey is former first-round pick Agholor, and while he is getting buzz in camp as a slot receiver, he has done very little so far in his NFL career.

With J-Matt now in Buffalo and Dorial Green-Beckham still at home on his couch (presumably), 191 targets are up for grabs in Philadelphia. Jeffrey should get the bulk of those, along with the newly acquired deep threat Torrey Smith, but Hollins has an opportunity to show he belongs in the rotation. And who knows, perhaps he can develop into more.
