Javorius Allen's Recent History

It took only one drive for Danny Woodhead to simultaneously lead the Baltimore Ravens in receptions (three) and exit with a hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve. Javorius Allen and Terrance West split reps for Baltimore the rest of the day, with the former finishing only slightly ahead in both touches (21 to 19) and snap percentage (50 percent to 41 percent).

Allen has also thrived in this position with the Ravens before, though.

He received at least 60 percent of the team's backfield snaps in six of Baltimore's final seven regular season games in 2015, averaging 19.65 PPR points in those contests. Then a 24-year-old rookie who averaged an 81 percent target share at USC the season prior, Allen inevitably appeared poised as a pass-catcher en route to leading Baltimore's backfield in Reception NEP per target (0.36).

The case made for Allen isn't that he's an exceptional runner — quite the contrary. West and Jeremy Langford, the latter recently signed off the practice squad, both finished among the worst in Rushing NEP per attempt last season. The Ravens also finished with the most raw passing attempts in each of the last two seasons, a slight misdirection from their league-high 70 percent run rate in Week 1.

If the offense reverts to its old play-calling style or regresses even slightly towards a more balanced attack, Allen would likely be the first called to reap the rewards of a pass-catching role. The added bonus of carries only makes him that much more enticing in PPR leagues.
