5 Rushes, 95 Yards
Performance Score: 99
Welcome back, MVP version of Cam Newton!
After throwing just two touchdowns over the past four games, it seemed as if Newton would never regain the magic of his magical 2015 MVP season. On Monday night, however, the Carolina Panthers quarterback was sensational, throwing for 4 touchdowns and racking up a season-high 95 yards rushing to bring his yardage total up to 349.
His Performance Score of 99 was far and away the best of the week, and his Panthers rolled to an easy 45-21 point win over the Miami Dolphins. Newton now has 181 rushing yards alone in his past two games, and the team is making a conscious effort to scheme him more in the running game through designed runs and read-option formations.
He would have had an even more impactful game if not for several awful drops by Russell Shepard and Curtis Samuel, including an easy touchdown that Samuel let bounce off his hands in the end zone.
With Cam back to being a threat on the ground, he is hard to leave on the bench as the fantasy playoffs approach.
