Fantasy Football: 3 Players You Can Drop After Week 13
Ameer Abdullah, RB, Detroit Lions
Yahoo Ownership: 84%
Consider Ameer Abdullah another third-year player with an extensive injury history that I whiffed on this past offseason. With electric juke moves and a more than respectable passing game to take pressure off the run, a healthy Abdullah looked like an enticing prospect in 2017.
I was wrong. The Detroit Lions' running game has looked stagnant all season, in no small part due to Abdullah's struggles. His -0.14 Rushing NEP per carry ranks 30th among the 33 running backs with at least 115 totes. His 30% Rushing Success Rate -- the percentage of rushes contributing positively to NEP -- ranks 32nd among that same group.
So Abdullah isn't making big plays, nor is he moving the chains consistently. He also hasn't been a threat in the passing game, registering only 27 targets this season.
If Abdullah has one thing going for him, though, it's that no runner on the Lions has been effective, either. But at this point in the season, it's better to own lucrative handcuff running backs who could inherit large workloads instead of running backs stuck in ineffective timeshares.
As such, it'd be more prudent to add Peyton Barber or Aaron Jones than to let Abdullah and all his mediocrity (for this season, at least) rot on your bench as an untrustable fantasy football asset.
