Which Team Is the Best Bet to Sign DeMarco Murray?
Indianapolis Colts
YouWager Odds - 3/1
Murray landing with the Indianapolis Colts, thus staying in the AFC North, would seem to make the most sense of the teams we have looked at so far. With Frank Gore gone, the Colts have lost 261 carries from a year ago, a 57.74% share of their total carries. Marlon Mack, a rookie in 2017, had 93 carries in relief of Gore, but his -0.07 Rushing NEP per play was good for just 36th among the 55 running backs to have carried the ball at least 75 times last season.
Mack is also recovering from shoulder surgery, and in his absence the Colts have gotten a good look at rookies Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins this offseason, as well as veteran Robert Turbin. Hines profiles more as a satellite back, leaving Wilkins competing with Mack and Turbin for the lead back role. If none of these players impress, Murray could slip into the Gore role and allow the Colts to rotate around him.
The prospect of Murray becoming the lead back on an offense led by Andrew Luck is an exciting one. But it, like many things in Indy, depends on Luck's health a great deal. In the perfect scenario, Murray's veteran presence could help in both aspects of the offense, through blocking and pass-catching in addition to running between the tackles. If choosing between the Bucs and Colts, Indy should be the preferred choice at the same 3/1 odds.
