Fantasy Football: One Wide Receiver to Target in Each Round of Your Draft

Devin Funchess, Carolina Panthers

Funchess was a low-key breakout player last season, recording 63 catches for 840 yards and 8 scores on his way to a PPR WR21 finish. The dominoes fell his way last season, in large part, with Kelvin Benjamin being shipped out of town and Greg Olsen getting hurt.

With first-round rookie D.J. Moore in the fold and Olsen healthy, Funchess should have more competition for targets this time around, but it's not a given that those two are major factors this year.

While there's a lot to like about Moore long term, he's a rookie, so he may not see big volume right away. Olsen is going into his age-33 season and is showing signs of decline, putting up just 27.3 yards per game last year, although, to be fair, he probably wasn't 100% healthy even in the seven games he did play. Still, Olsen has only one touchdown over his last 15 regular-season games (hat tip to our JJ Zachariason), so there's plenty to be concerned about with him.

All that to say that Funchess could end up seeing close to the 22.16% market share he got last year, a share which yielded 111 targets, and if Olsen isn't going to score touchdowns for Carolina, someone has to, so Funchess could again be a major red-zone factor for Cam Newton.

Funchess' upside isn't super sexy, but it's the ninth round -- you're not going to find many high-upside guys chillin' on the draft board. We forecast Funchess as our WR38, and he's a solid pick this late in the draft.
