Between the Lines: Week 1 Snap Count Analysis
AFC East
Buffalo Bills - Has Allen Been Handed the Torch?
Quarterbacks: Josh Allen (50%), Nathan Peterman (50%)
Running Backs: LeSean McCoy (53%), Marcus Murphy (36%), Chris Ivory (11%)
Wide Receivers: Zay Jones (94%), Kelvin Benjamin (73%), Jeremy Kerley (69%)
Tight End: Charles Clay (63%)
After Nathan Peterman got out to an abysmal start, the rookie replaced him with over 11 minutes left in the third. It was also interesting to see Marcus Murphy operate well ahead of Chris Ivory, but it makes sense given the final score, as Murphy is more of a change-of-pace back, which is what Buffalo needed in such a large hole. It was encouraging to see Zay Jones as a staple on the field, but this shaky offense does not deserve your attention for now.
Miami Dolphins - Stills Is Ready to Shine
Quarterback: Ryan Tannehill (100%)
Running Backs: Kenyan Drake (74%), Frank Gore (29%)
Wide Receivers: Kenny Stills (95%), Danny Amendola (73%), Albert Wilson (55%), Jakeem Grant (40%)
Tight Ends: A.J. Derby (74%), Michael Gesicki (34%), Durham Smythe (24%)
Kenny Stills got alpha wide receiver snaps and performed accordingly in this Week 1 contest. Also, Kenyan Drake distanced himself from Frank Gore, where he should work as an unquestioned lead back. Mike Gesicki is not where we thought he might be even at this stage in the early season.
New England Patriots - What Happened to Hogan?
Quarterback: Tom Brady (100%)
Running Backs: Rex Burkhead (49%), James White (48%), Jeremy Hill (16%)
Wide Receivers: Chris Hogan (91%), Phillip Dorsett (76%), Cordarrelle Patterson (21%), Riley McCarron (20%)
Tight End: Rob Gronkowski (100%)
It was a near even split for Rex Burkhead and James White, but Burkhead had missed quite a bit of practice of late. Expect the prognosis to cloud considerably once Sony Michel enters the lineup. And finally, Phillip Dorsett is now a legitimate fantasy target after turning a big workload into 66 yards and a score.
