The San Diego Chargers are in a phenomenal spot at home against a reeling San Francisco 49ers football team. The Chargers are currently 10.5-point home favorites with an implied team total of 28.75 points. This type of game script is set up perfectly for Melvin Gordon to absolutely feast.

The 49ers have given up 97.0 yards rushing per game and a 287.7 passing yards per game. Their defense is susceptible to big plays and will now be without their star quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. This sets up nicely for the Chargers' defense to be stacked with Melvin Gordon, and hopefully have a nice correlation of forcing some turnovers and providing Gordon with a few short-field scoring opportunities.

Gordon has yet to clear15 rushing attempts, but in a game where they will likley control the ball and the clock, Gordon could be using to pound the rock and rack up the type of volume we are looking for from a running back priced above $8K. Gordon has a high floor due to his pass catching ability (17 receptions for 144 yards) and nose for the end zone (four total touchdowns).

While game flow has limited Gordon's red zone opportunities, he has the sixth-highest red zone target market share out of all running backs in 2018 (26.67%). If I am paying up at running back, I am going to plug in Gordon and not think twice about it.
