Fantasy Football: 5 Things We Learned In Week 7
Blake Bortles Has Been Benched
Sunday was looking like a vintage 2015 game from Blake Bortles. After giving up multiple turnovers and generating virtually nothing on offense, it looked like he was going to clean up in garbage time. Bortles had failed to generate any scoring drives against a susceptible Houston Texans defense that had just given up 13 points to an abysmal Buffalo Bills offense.
But instead of the usual Patron Saint of Garbage Time bailout we've grown accustomed to over the years, the Jags coaching staff shockingly benched the recently-extended quarterback in favor of Cody Kessler. Bortles finished the game with just 1.4 fantasy points and watched Kessler throw 30 times in just under a half of football.
It's become clear now that Bortles is no longer the streamable quarterback he once was -- if he even gets the starting quarterback job back. The Jags have not yet announced their Week 8 starter, but Kessler considerably outplayed Bortles with 156 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception (on a dropped pass) to Bortles' 61 yards and two fumbles.
This situation puts all of your Jaguars players at risk in fantasy football. Hopefully you weren't counting on one of their wide receivers, but even T.J. Yeldon's job is at risk with a struggling offense and incoming competition from Carlos Hyde. Their once-vaunted defense -- the foundation of their AFC Championship run last year -- has given up 90 points over the last three games. The Jaguars are a sinking ship for fantasy and you need to steer clear their players until they prove otherwise.
