Fantasy Football: 5 Things We Learned in Week 9
Aaron Rodgers Has a New Toy
The Green Bay Packers cut Jordy Nelson this past offseason and decided to go with younger players at wideout. That move didn't pay immediate dividends, but it is paying off now.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling is breaking out. He torched the New England Patriots for some big plays in Week 9, going for 101 yards on 3 receptions. That was MVS's fourth consecutive game with either 100 yards or a touchdown, and that's despite the return of teammate Randall Cobb. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is officially the Packers' number-two receiver.
That's a job that should excite you -- in the past Nelson, Davante Adams, and Cobb have all flourished in fantasy football as Rodgers' number-two wideout. MVS drew six targets in last night's game, played the second-most snaps of any wide receiver on the team and finished with the sixth-most air yards in the entire league in Week 9.
He's a legitimate burner, too. He clocked a 4.39 40-yard dash (96th-percentile) at the combine, and at his height (6'4"), that's good for a 97th-percentile speed score on PlayerProfiler.com. Valdes-Scantling has beaten out the other rookie wide receivers on the Packers' roster and established himself as a must-own player in season-long leagues.
