Play-Calling Trends

At this point in the season, things aren't changing much on a week-by-week basis. The sample sizes are big enough that teams aren't going to be making big moves as far as their ranking in pass-to-run ratio or red zone plays per game.

Instead, we'll look at numbers over the last three weeks and how those differ from teams' season-long numbers.

No team has seen a bigger boost in red zone snaps per game over the last three weeks than the Titans, jumping by 3.9, from 9.4 to 13.3 per game. Two other teams are averaging an increase of at least 3.0 per game -- the Seattle Seahawks (3.1) and the New York Jets (3.0).

The biggest drop belongs to the Los Angeles Rams, who are down by 4.3 per game, ranking only 15th over the last three weeks compared to 2nd on the season. Washington (-3.1) and the New Orleans Saints (-3.1) are the only other teams running at least 3.0 snaps below their average.

The Rams are one of the three teams with the heaviest shift towards the pass, seeing their pass-to-run ratio go from 1.10 on the year to 1.89 over the last three weeks. The two bigger shifts belong to the Atlanta Falcons (from 1.70 to 2.50) and the Miami Dolphins (1.12 to 2.40).

The biggest shifts in the other direction belong to the Detroit Lions (1.21 to 0.67), the Cincinnati Bengals (1.46 to 0.88) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (1.15 to 0.54).
