Fantasy Football: One Potential Cut Candidate for Every NFC Team

Nick Foles will always be remembered fondly by Philadelphia Eagles fans. After leading them to their first Super Bowl title a year ago, he once again stepped in for an injured Carson Wentz and led Philly to a road upset over the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card Round.

But in truth, Foles was good over five 2018 starts, but he wasn't elite. He posted 0.16 Passing NEP per drop back, which tied four other quarterbacks for 11th among qualified passers. One of the signal callers he was tied with was none other than Wentz.

The Eagles are committed to Wentz, and with Wentz on his rookie deal, coupled with one of the worst cap situations (on paper) in the NFL, it is doubtful that the team can afford to keep Foles on the roster at his current price. Plus, given his near legendary deeds and the often-volatile nature of Eagles fans, it probably wouldn’t be fair on Wentz to have Foles around should the young gun hit a rough patch in 2019. But this point is of little concern to the Eagles' front office, I have no doubt.

Foles contract is a strange “double option,” with both he and the Eagles having the option to opt out. Given the buzz surrounding his end-of-season form, the Eagles may look to trigger the option and trade Foles to one of the host of quarterback-needy teams around the NFL. The appointment of John DeFilippo as offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars will lead many to speculate that Foles could be replacing Blake Bortles in 2019.

We'll have to see where Foles ends up, but it is very unlikely he will be in Philly next year.
