Cincinnati Bengals

Andy Dalton has the 10th-most passing yards in the NFL since entering the league in 2011. His 188 touchdown passes are also the 10th-most while only Matthew Stafford has more fourth-quarter comeback victories than Dalton's 20. In all, Dalton is 67-50-2 as the Cincinnati Bengals' starter.

But all of that came under the stewardship of Marvin Lewis. Lewis finally left the team at the end of the 2018 season and was replaced by Zac Taylor. Little is known about Taylor, except that he comes from the ever-growing coaching tree of Sean McVay. But what is known about the Bengals is that they have posted a losing record in each of the last three seasons following a span of five consecutive seasons with at least nine wins and a postseason berth.

Of course, as is famously known, they failed to win a single playoff game in this time.

Dalton was restricted to 11 games in 2018, and to be fair to him, he wasn't terrible. He threw 21 touchdowns at a 5.8% touchdown rate, the second-highest of his career. His efficiency was also markedly improved from 2017. In 2017, his Passing NEP per drop back was a ghastly -0.02, but he improved it to 0.13 last year. Still, this was only good enough for 15th among 31 quarterbacks with 300 or more drop backs.

The guaranteed money on Dalton's contract is all gone, and he can be released at any time with no dead-money hit to the Bengals' cap. Cincy should be looking to upgrade and replace Dalton, who will turn 32 during the 2019 season. But they should have been looking to do that for quite some time, and they never have. That's why they are considered a long shot to take a chance on Haskins here, but they're an intriguing option, particularly given the coaching overhaul they underwent this spring.
