Can the Lions Continue to Dominate on Defense?

One of the more surprising teams so far this season is the Detroit Lions, who currently have the second-best defense in the NFL according to our numbers. They put that defense on display against the Packers, and now face a stumbling New York Jets offense in Week 4.

The Lions were certainly not that bad on defense a year ago, finishing 14th in our final rankings, but sitting near the top after an impressive showing against their division rivals from Green Bay was certainly more than anyone could have expected. They currently have a dominant run defense, one that shut down Eddie Lacy and company, limiting them to only 76 yards on the ground.

We've seen the Giants get back on track on offense after faltering against Detroit, so is it possible that this Lions team has become one of the upper-echelon teams in the NFL on that side of the ball? There are certainly talent questions in the secondary, and injury concerns at multiple positions, but the numbers speak for themselves.

A date with Geno Smith should be the perfect opportunity to continue their defensive dominance, but stranger things have happened, and the Lions could be exposed a fool's gold this weekend.
