8 NFL Veterans in Danger of Losing Their Jobs

After the Minnesota Vikings were able to trade for the costly Mike Wallace this offseason, Greg Jennings’ $11 million cap number became expendable. The Miami Dolphins, however, saw an opportunity and signed him to a cheaper deal -- two years for $8 million, with $3 million guaranteed. He’s been pretty worth it, too: his per-target Reception NEP last year was good enough to tie him for 23rd among receivers with more than 50 targets in 2014, and his Target NEP ranked him 30th among the same group. So why is he on the chopping block?
A rookie named DeVante Parker became the 14th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft and thus fell into the Dolphins’ lap. Standing 6-foot-3, weighing 209 pounds, and running a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, Parker has everything you want in a wideout. His strong hands to win at the catch point and explosive playmaking ability showed both on his Louisville tape and at the NFL Combine. He should easily beat out Jennings for a starting job outside in the Dolphins’ base offense.
