This is a team that appears to be in near sinking-ship mode, so it’s no surprise they find themselves near the bottom of our rankings.

Starting at the most talked about position, the Robert Griffin III debacle drags on. Moving on from his as the team's starter is one thing -- Griffin finished 36th in Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt among 37 qualifying quarterbacks last season -- but the move to Kirk Cousins who sports a career 4.7 percent interception rate doesn't appear to be the long-term answer.

Their run game led by Alfred Morris was slightly above-average last season -- finishing 14th in Adjusted Rushing NEP per play -- and the addition of rookie Matt Jones could add a complementary piece to the rushing attack. It will be in the team’s best interest to focus on the run and insulate Cousins to prevent turnovers.

The good news is that the team’s rush defense should be among the league’s best. Washington finished sixth in Adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP per play last season and is again projected to finish in the top-six this year according to our rankings. The addition of Terrance Knighton and Stephen Paea should especially help.

The pass defense is another story. We have them projected to finish dead-last in 2015, with a sizable margin between their position group and the next worst team's, Tampa Bay.

With only a 15.9 percent chance of making the playoffs, it’s looking like another long, frustrating season for the fans in our nation’s capital.
