With former starting wideout Torrey Smith playing in San Francisco this season and first-round draft choice Breshad Perriman sidelined due to injury, someone had to step up and be a second option in the passing game for quarterback Joe Flacco behind aging star Steve Smith.

On Sunday, that somebody was tight end Crockett Gillmore.

Wait, who?

Drafted in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Gillmore lacked agility and burst off the line, leading many to view him as a blocking tight end for the Ravens. But as Gillmore demonstrated against the Raiders, what he lacks in polish and route-running, he more than makes up for in pure size (he stands at 6'6", 260 lbs, with 10 3/8" hands) and athleticism (he was also a top performer at the Combine with a 33.5" vertical and 120" broad jump).

This physical prowess was on full display in Oakland in Week 2, as Crockett turned the second-most targets on this team for a second-week in a row (6) into 5 receptions for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns.

And while the Raiders aren't exactly the stiffest of competition -- their schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing NEP ranked them as the eighth-worst passing defense in the league last season -- the high volume of targets that have come his way suggests Gillmore will continue to be a big part of this passing game until a better option emerges.
