Cliff Avril, Defensive End

Whenever there’s a Seattle Seahawks defensive end on the waiver wire, you really have to question what NFL your leaguemates are watching. Here we are, though, as for some reason Cliff Avril falls into our laps as a potential IDP streaming pick for Week 6. Teammate Michael Bennett is currently the second-highest fantasy scoring defensive end in IDP, and Avril is also in the top 20. This is a team that gets their pass-rushers in good situations to attack the quarterback, and it shows: Avril has 18 total tackles and two sacks on the young season, and looks poised for more.

This Week 6 matchup pits the ‘Hawks against the run-heavy Carolina Panthers. The Panthers rank by far the lowest in pass-to-run ratio this year, which indicates quite a few tackle opportunities for Avril and company when the running backs (or Newton) tuck the ball and run. Unfortunately, this isn’t a top matchup for big plays, as the Panthers rank in the middle of the pack (18th) in sack percentage allowed, and bottom third in stuff percentage allowed (27th). Still, the tackles should be plenty for Avril on the day.

Avril is available in 93.0% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for around 3.0 tackles, a chance for a sack, and a total score of 3.74 balanced fantasy points in Week 6.
