Defenses

High-Cost Option: Denver Broncos $3,900

The Broncos enter a great matchup on the road against Chicago, a team that's allowing the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing defensive units. Denver leads the league in sacks and is seventh in takeaways. The Broncos get Aqib Talib back from his one-game suspension and take on Jay Cutler, who was tied for the most interceptions in the league last year. If I'm paying up for a defense, I'm going for the one that's the highest ranked per numberFire's schedule-adjusted metrics and that has a good shot at both sacks and turnovers.

Mid-Cost Option: New England Patriots $3,200

The last time these two teams played, New England's D/ST picked up 13 fantasy points, sacking Tyrod Taylor 8 times and picking him off for 3 interceptions. Buffalo is only getting to the red zone a league-low 2.0 trips per game and will likely continue to struggle this week against an active New England defensive front that has the second-most sacks in the NFL.

Low-Cost Option: Baltimore Ravens $2,700

The Ravens take on a visiting St. Louis Rams team that is allowing the 10th-most fantasy points to opposing D/ST units. Baltimore has the fewest takeaways on the season but have the ninth-most sacks on the season. Case Keenum owns a career completion rate of 55.2%. If the Rams plan on leaning on the run this week, the Ravens' front seven has proven to be tough in this element with a top-10 unit in rushing yards allowed. With all the bargains available at other positions, this may be a good week to pay up for a top of the line defense.

GPP Wildcard: Philadelphia Eagles $3,100

The Eagles' D/ST has been all over the map but get a favorable matchup this week at home against the Buccaneers. Philadelphia has scored 12 or more points in three of their last five games and are second in the league in takeaways. The Buccaneers have 16 giveaways on the season (eighth-most) and will likely need a big game out of Jameis Winston given Philadelphia's tough run defense. With all the great $3,000-plus defenses this week, the Eagles could offer a nice pivot and save a couple hundred bucks.
