5. Cam Newton Is Playing at Another Level

If you told me this past offseason that Newton and the Panthers would end up as the NFC representatives for Super Bowl 50 -- especially after the team had lost their best wideout, Kelvin Benjamin, for the season -- I would've laughed and made a very costly bet against you.

But after an NFL MVP-worthy performance this season in which Cam Newton was not only the eighth most efficient quarterback on a per drop back basis, but also where his 0.35 Rushing NEP per attempt led all players in the league with at least 100 carries this season, Newton carried the Panthers to a 17-1 overall record and are now favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in Santa Clara this upcoming Sunday.

It still won't be a cakewalk for him and the Panthers, though. Newton faces a tough task, as he must take on perhaps one of the best defenses of this century. But as our very own Jim Sannes found last week, his track record of success against top defenses already this season is encouraging for the Panthers chances in this contest.

So if Newton can keep the form he's shown all season, he has a very good chance to lead his team to their 18th win this season and the franchise's first ever Super Bowl title.
