Browns' Deshaun Watson undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will undergo season-ending surgery on a broken bone in his throwing shoulder.
Watson was also diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain. P.J. Walker is expected to take over as the Browns' starting quarterback for the rest of the season. He has thrown 1 touchdown and 5 interceptions across five appearances and two starts. Fifth-round rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson is the only other quarterback on the active roster. Watson's injury is a significant downgrade for the entire offense.
Watson is averaging negative-0.08 and Walker is averaging negative-0.19 Passing Net Expected Points per dropback this season, but Watson was coming off two of his most efficient performances of the season. Among the 36 quarterbacks with at least 100 dropbacks, Watson is 29th in Passing NEP per attempt and Walker ranks only above Daniel Jones.
