4 Fantasy Football Studs to Buy Low

Injuries can present complex buy-low situations as some owners are more willing than other to exercise patience if they feel a situation or player is worth the wait. That may or may not be the case with Doug Martin, who has now seen three of his five seasons marred by injuries. Even when he was healthy this year, he came out of the gate slowly, averaging just 3.4 yards per carry and failing to score a touchdown against either the Arizona Cardinals or Atlanta Falcons.

On the bright side, backup Charles Sims has been even worse in Martin's absence, averaging just 2.8 yards per carry, while the entire offense has struggled. Sims inability to produce on the ground in his absence likely provides Martin with a clear path to heavy workloads on his return.

Jameis Winston leads the league in pass attempts, but coach Dirk Koetter would like to bring more balance to the offense, which also bodes well for Martin.

While Martin did struggle to put up numbers in his Week 1 matchup against the Falcons, he did force eight missed tackles, according to Pro Football Focus, the most in a game by an running back since Chris Ivory in Week 12 of 2015. Based on what we saw in that game, Martin will be just fine if he can return from his hamstring issue.

Finally, the schedule is a major reason to buy into the hype. Martin's fantasy playoff schedule will feature two games against the porous defense of the New Orleans Saints, who rank last in Adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP per play. He also has favorable matchups against the Oakland Raiders (29th in Adjusted Defensive NEP per rush), Falcons (22nd), Chicago Bears (28th), Kansas City Chiefs (26th) and San Diego Chargers (21st) the rest of the way. In fact, the only matchup against a top-tier rush defense is a Week 12 clash with the Seattle Seahawks.
