2. Kurt Coleman Keeps It Close…For a While

Win Probability Added: +14.34
NEP: +6.61

The Carolina Panthers got absolutely walloped by the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4, thanks primarily to the historic days quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones had. But for one brief, shining moment in the second quarter, it appeared that the Panthers might be able to pull this back.

Carolina was down just 14 points in the second quarter, and the Falcons were on their own 8-yard line. Ryan took his drop back, felt pressure coming his way, and dialed up a check-down pass to running back Devonta Freeman. Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis batted the ball into the air, and strong safety Kurt Coleman intercepted it and charged into the end zone for a pick-six. That’s about as close as the teams’ win probability would be for the rest of the game, and it was Ryan’s only blemish on a 500-yard passing day.
